ABOUT US
If you want to know more about Nick and Jon read on:
Nick Histon
My
name is Nick Histon.
I am a 23 year old staff nurse from Southampton.
I originally came from Cornwall which is where Jon and I grew up together.
Southampton is now my home and I love it here.
So why do I want to do this crazy race?
Almost ten years ago I remember standing in Los Gigantes, Tenerife
watching my cousin set off on his Atlantic crossing with his partner
(Michael Elliott and Louis Hunkin). I had great admiration for them as they
successfully completed the race. From then on, Jon and I became interested
in the race, but at a younger age you don’t actually believe it might
happen!
We will be raising money for our respective charities. I have chosen the
National Society for Epilepsy.
This charity has particular relevance to me as I am currently being treated
for epilepsy. I am fortunate in the sense that I haven’t had a seizure for a
few years now. However I can appreciate how difficult it is growing up with
epilepsy. I have tried to lead as normal a life as possible. I can drive
now, I have been to university and had a great uni life!! Now I want to take
on something that will test me physically and mentally to the limit. I aim
to show that as an epileptic, I can achieve anything!
My partner in this race is Jon Csehi. I wouldn’t have considered anybody else to partner me for the race as I know we will be able to work through any problems due to our close friendship.
Although even this might be tested at times!
Jon Csehi
I’m 24 and have been serving as a Royal Marine for the last 4 years. I’ve always been into my fitness and I particularly enjoy training hard for a specific event or goal.
I’ve been best friends with Nick since the age of 5 so we know each others strengths. I’m sure that this is going to be a big help to our success, 50 days alone at sea would not be a good time to realize that you don’t get on with someone!
Why do I want to do this?
We decided at the age of 13 that we really wanted to do this challenge after
following the progress of Nick’s Cousin Mike Elliot who completed the race
in 1997 in the ‘Cornish Challenger’.
The build up to the race so far has already been a very steep learning curve. From phoning potential sponsors to building our boat, everything is an insight into a different world.
It’s going to be the hardest physical and mental challenge I’ve ever done and that’s what makes it so appealing to me
